Haaretz Mocks Livni's New Style of Politics

For Tzipi Livni, in a field full of talented but inexperienced candidates, it is still about 'Bibi or Tzipi'. Hence, it ain't going her way too smoothly.

Harretz's Yossi Verter describes best Livni's new style of politics - My way or the Highway.
"Two weeks ago Livni declared she wouldn't do this, saying the continual splits, divisions, and fragmentations of the center-left don't serve the ultimate goal: bringing down Netanyahu. So she said it. So what?

Two months ago, three months ago and four months ago, Yair Lapid declared and re-declared that his Yesh Atid list would not include any current or recycled politicians. He revealed Sunday that he had offered Livni the No. 2 spot on his list. So he also said it. So what?

Politicians are politicians, whether they are fresh off the shelf or experienced veterans: Their word is only valid for the day it is uttered, and often not even for that long.

What is motivating Livni to run alone is the emotional difficulty she has with being No. 2, whether behind Ehud Olmert (who is still toying with the notion of running and is looking for attractive Nos. 2 and 3 ), or behind Shelly Yacimovich of Labor, or behind Lapid.

Funny - Yitzhak Rabin wasn't embarrassed to be Shimon Peres' No. 2, and vice versa. Netanyahu didn't deem it dishonorable to be No. 2 under Ariel Sharon, and vice versa. There are other examples from other times and other parties. That's how it is with politics. But Livni was always talking about a different type of politics. I guess now we know what she mean."
