US envoy to Fayyad: 'US won't support UN Palestinian statehood bid'

The US will not support the Palestinians' plan to unilaterally seek independent statehood from the United Nations in September, US Middle East adviser David Hale told Palestinian Authority President Salam Fayyad in a meeting on Wednesday, Israel Radio reported.

Palestinian goals will only be achieved through negotiations with Israel, Hale emphasize to Fayyad.

Deputy Foreign Minister Daniel Ayalon claimed Israel has put a stop to the Palestinian tidal wave prior to September during his meeting with Italian Interior Minister Roberto Maroni Wednesday.

According to Ayalon, Israel continues to learn that more and more countries reject the Palestinian dissention and agree that direct talks are the only key to peace. Ayalon said unilateralism is interpreted as confrontation and provocation
