Benjamin Netanyahu is the leader of the free world.
I know it is a shock to the system to admit it, and even though I admire Netanyahu tremendously – it is hard to say or even think that the torch has once again passed and, at this moment, it has gone “offshore” and been passed to a man in Israel.
Netanyahu is a principled leader who has a very strong and defined sense of good and evil. The contrast in the Middle East is unmistakable. The land where Jesus Christ walked and lived is now surrounded by countries which dispatch children with bombs strapped under their Sponge Bob shirts to kill the innocent.
As I watched the speech he delivered recently here in Washington, I was struck by the seriousness in his eyes. Netanyahu knows who the good people are, and he knows who the bad people are. He understands and grasps fully the responsibility of world leaders to act on that understanding.
President Obama seems either wrongheaded or confused when it comes to core principles. His effort and the disingenuous cacophony of his liberal cheerleading squad at MSNBC would have you believe that it was persistence and political genius which caused the vote on health care to end the way it ended. Nonsense. Two words explain how the liberals subjugated our health care system to regulation, taxation and a future of mismanagement – Bart Stupak. If Stupak had stuck to his principles, then the bill would have been defeated. He didn’t, and now the President’s back is hurting from taking unearned victory bows.
Obama and his followers switch between blaming George Bush and “racist and violent” tea party activists for every problem and new policy development.
I think I look at all of this in a similar way that other Americans see it – I don’t hate the President, but I don’t respect him either. He promised talking Iran out of its nukes and negotiating away all of the problems on the world stage – he hasn’t delivered.
Endless and contrived town meeting marathons, beer summits and seemingly earnest speeches are feeble attempts to postpone the serious business of governing and extend the campaign. But, they don’t get the job done.
Obama has come face-to-face with evil a number of times, and the President blinked (or, more accurately, he bowed). You get the impression that if the President was handed a survey on values and convictions, most of the boxes would get marked “undecided.”
And that brings us back to Mr. Netanyahu, whom I believe was raised by God for this moment.
I am sad that the torch has been passed. But, the spirit of singularly American exceptionalism, and the strong commitment to faith and morals have vanished here.
