(Jpost).Sixty-six percent of the Israeli Jewish public supports continued construction in east Jerusalem, according to a study released Sunday. According to the July 2009 Peace Index poll published by Tel Aviv University, 27% oppose building, and the rest are undecided.
These results were in line with the public's view of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, whose foreign policy is assessed positively by 53% of the public, according to the poll conducted by Prof. Ephraim Yaar and Prof. Tamar Hermann.
The Jewish public continues to view US President Barack Obama as more supportive of the Palestinian side of the conflict, with 46% saying the American leader is more sympathetic to the Palestinian cause. However, this was lower then the percentage two months ago when Obama gave his speech to the Arab world in Cairo (55%). Thirty-one percent view his position as neutral and 7% as pro-Israeli.
Trust in Obama's ability to maintain Israeli interests was also shown to be on the rise, with 38% trusting the president compared to 26% two months ago. Sixty percent do not have faith in his ability to do so, as opposed to 68% two months ago.
