Expert: Israelis prefer security - and Netanyahu

(OneNewsNow). A Middle East expert says she believes the Israeli people are "sick and tired" of the appeasement policies of the Olmert government and are ready to give Benjamin Netanyahu his second shot as prime minister.

Netanyahu recently told reporters that all of Jerusalem will remain under Israeli control if he and his Likud Party win next week's election. The former prime minister added that Jews have prayed for 2,000 years to return to their biblical capital and re-establish sovereignty. Pre-election polls show Netanyahu with a lead over Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and former Prime Minister Ehud Barack.

Brigitte Gabriel is founder and president of ACT! for America. The Arab Christian believes the Israeli people want a leader who is going to put their safety and security first.

"The Israelis are sick and tired of negotiating with the Palestinians," Gabriel exclaims. "And they are looking at a leader who can at least give them the feeling or the sense of protection -- because at this point the Israelis have not felt protected; they have not felt the sense of security," she adds.

Gabriel continues: "They need to be able to feel that they have a leader who can protect them, who will go to battle to defend them, and who will ultimately put the safety and security of the Israeli people first before the public opinion of the [Arabs] and the U.N."

Netanyahu, she believes, will not be bullied and pressured like the Olmert government
