(Ynet).President Shimon Peres met with US President Barack Obama in Washington, Speaking to reporters after the meeting Peres said that Israel should support Obama's efforts to engageIran diplomatically.
"We should be loyal supporters," Peres said. "If it will succeed, it can be the best thing."
"I told [Obama] that a great change has begun, because today most of the Sunnu world does not see the problem as Israel, but Iran," the president told reporters.
"[Israel] is ready for negotiations with the Palestinians, with the Syrians," Peres told Obama "I believe this is an opportunity that is not worth forfeiting."
"I can't say there won't be difficulties, but it would be a serious mistake not to take advantage of the opportunity," Peres said.
The two leaders exchanged gifts. Obama gave Peres a silver mezuzah studded with turquoise stones, which the latter has already said he plans to affix to the door of his official residence in Jerusalem, Peres on his part gave his host a sculpture by renowned Israeli artist Razia Gershon. Titled 'The Yearning for Peace,' the figure is of a woman cradling 20 doves.
